The poor kill and maim their neighbors while the rich hold press conferences, then later sit in their mansions and celebrate their 15 seconds of fame on national prime time television.
Amid all this, ordinary Kenyans can save themselves from this rot, that is ironically necessary in maintaining societal structures (existence haves and have-nots).
1. Taking Politicians too seriously

Politicians have time and time again shown us that they are actually friends. They all live in the same estates and do business together. Next time a politician incites you to rape, assault, maim or kill; remember that he is only serious about what he hopes to achieve - by using you.
2. Wasting time in public gatherings
A politician makes inflated mileage claims whenever he/she comes down to the village to yell hooey and sing discordant songs. While listening to him/her, you fail to till your shamba or open your small business.
They get a fat monthly paycheck while you sleep hungry. Make the connection. Who's fooling who when you abandon your work to go follow politicians during their homecomings and other gatherings?
3. Your busine
ss firstThe Safaricom IPO was a nightmare for the innumerable small fish that invested. They got a mere 25% allotment and had their refunds delayed. The rich and influential had their money wired directly into their accounts, they never queued liked the rest. Actually, the very able only channeled their funds after allotment. No delays for the 'animals' that are equal than others.
Ordinary Kenyans need to learn that their small businesses need these funds, and immediately. Many will be careful before investing next time on the basis of hype.
4. The essence of courage
Courage is not the absence of fear. It is managing fear well. The ordinary people need to up their game and focus on self improvement.
Personal initiatives are hard to implement. but desperate times call for desperate measures. A time is coming when a revolution of sacrifice, determination and action will sweep this land. But courage is needed to achieve this.
5. Ces't la vie - Get used to it

While the rich and powerful are getting used to choice (more food, houses, money, entertainment etc.), the rest of the country is getting used to a life of hardship. Inflation in excess of 31%, erratic weather patterns and elevated taxes to boot.
Life continues whether you learn or not. The world keeps spinning, so where are you in this land of contradictions? Are you doing anything about it?
Do share your thoughts.
